TTC Acronyms
Are you confused about all the acronyms that you read on pregnancy forums or other websites? Well, here is a glossary of terms to disseminate what is being conveyed. I will do my best to make it exhaustive.
AI—Artificial Insemination-using a semen sample to achieve pregnancy without having sexual intercourse.
ART—Assistive Reproductive Technology-fertility treatments and medications to achieve pregnancy.
BD—Baby Dancing-unprotected sexual intercourse to purposely conceive.
BFN–Big Fat Negative-a negative pregnancy test result
BFP–Big Fat Positive–a positive pregnancy test result
BH—Braxton-Hicks
D&C—Dilation and Curettage
DH—Dear Husband
DPO—Days Past Ovulation-the number of days after ovulation when waiting for a positive pregnancy test
FMU–First Morning Urine-testing with urine at the beginning of the day
HPT—Home Pregnancy Test
IVF—In Vitro Fertilization-
MMC—Missed Miscarriage
NI—Natural Insemination—having sexual intercourse to achieve pregnancy
NIPT—Noninvasive Prenatal Testing-a blood test to determine if a fetus has genetic abnormalities
OPK—Ovulation Predictor Kit-an instrument that predicts the most fertile time during a menstrual cycle
PI—Partial Insemination—sexual intercourse only when the sperm donor is at the point of ejaculation
POAS—Pee on a stick-using a home pregnancy test
TW—Trigger Warning-lets you know that the following content will deal with harsh topics such as miscarriages, abortions, and etc
TTC—Trying to Conceive-trying to have a baby
TWW-Two Week Wait- the two-week waiting period after intercourse or insemination before a pregnancy test can be performed
