In The Meantime
November 18, 2023
Booker T. Washington, acclaimed speaker, educator, and activist is quoted as saying, “If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else”. These are timeless words that speak to my current situation. I have been down lately because my motherhood dreams have been out of reach. Caterpillar and I have broken up because of my inability to have children. The Megace and Lovenox had me tired and debilitated. I have been hospitalized, and please don’t get me started talking about my job. Forget being on the struggle bus, I have been on the struggle cruise ship in choppy waters. I feel as if I’m the muse for Luke Bryan and Vince Gill.
So, drawing upon the wisdom from Booker T. Washington, I have decided to give to others in an effort to be a support to others. Honestly, I know that I am blessed. I just feel bad that the one thing that I have been trying for my entire life is elusive. However, I am choosing to direct my attention to those who need help so that I can, hopefully, alleviate some of their suffering.
I am focusing on being hands-on and charitable with others and do things to lift up others. One of the first things that I did was donate groceries to a local organization that helps homeless military veterans. My office staff collected an impressive number of groceries to feed our beloved veterans for Thanksgiving. Off Road Outreach will deliver the food to veterans who are in need.
The next act lifting someone up that I did was making two shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. I made one box for a boy and one box for a girl. The items in the boxes were handpicked by me and included a note and a picture. My hope is that the children that receive the boxes that I made for them have a measure of joy for Christmas regardless of their circumstances.
Finally, one of the last acts of benevolence that I did was host a Day of the Dead Celebration for the local community. It was an effort to reach out to the Latino community even though this is not a common celebration in my area.
As we say in the Black Baptist Church, “I don’t want my living to be in vain”. Being that I minister of the Gospel, it is my duty to pour into the lives of others so that they may know that Jesus Christ is real.
Until the good Lord calls me home to heaven, I am going to do whatever I can to be a measure of hope in someone’s life. In the meantime, my efforts will be to serve others in meaningful ways.
I have other things in the works, and I can’t wait to positively impact others. Please stay tuned for more.
